Food Preparation

Food Protection Program

This program is in place to protect every individual consuming food in Iroquois County from food-borne illness by enforcing the Iroquois County Food Service Ordinance and the Illinois Department of Public Health Food Services Sanitation Code.

 

This is achieved through inspections of food service establishments throughout each and every year.

Potable Water

Potable Water Program

The agency works to eliminate disease transmission and chemical poisons through the provision of a safe, potable, and adequate supply of water for drinking, culinary, and sanitary purposes for every individual within Iroquois County.

 

This is achieved through the enforcement of the Water Well Ordinance of Iroquois County, the Illinois Department of Public Health Water Well Construction Code, and the Illinois Department of Public Health Water Well Pump Installation Code.

Services Include:

  1. Inspections of non-community water systems

  2. Inspections of newly constructed or repaired wells

  3. Testing of private well water

  4. Issuance of permits for newly constructed wells

  5. Inspections of abandoned well sealings

  6. Surveying existing wells for loan/environmental surveys

  7. Issuance of permits for newly constructed geothermal wells

  8. Inspections of newly constructed geothermal wells

  9. Complaint inspections

Private Sewage Disposal

Private Sewage Disposal Program

The goal of this program is to protect every individual in the jurisdiction of the Iroquois County Public Health Department from contraction and transmission of disease by enforcing the Sewage Disposal Ordinance of Iroquois County.

 

This ordinance follows the Illinois Department of Public Health Private Sewage Disposal Licensing Act and Code.

Services Include:

  1. Inspections of newly constructed or repaired septic systems

  2. Inspections of disposal sites

  3. Inspections of pumper trucks

  4. Issuance of permits for newly constructed or repaired septic systems

  5. Surveying of existing septic systems for loan/environmental purposes

  6. Complaint inspections

Radon

Radon Program

The goal of this program is to raise public awareness regarding the dangers of radon and to increase the number of homes tested in Iroquois County.

 

Our staff provide information and test kits to the public at no cost.

Tanning

Tanning Program

Inspections of tanning facilities located within Iroquois County are conducted to protect the patrons of tanning facilities from the hazards of ultraviolet radiation.

This is done through the enforcement of the Illinois Tanning Facilities Code.

Tobacco

Tobacco Program

This program assists in the enforcement of the Smoke-Free Illinois Act and educates the public regarding the law.

 

Additionally, it supports effective, school-based programs for tobacco use prevention in order to reduce initiation and encourage cessation of tobacco use among young people.

Vector Control

Vector Control Program

​This program works to decrease the incidence and spread of West Nile Virus.

Education, surveillance, and mosquito control in Iroquois County is made possible through the enforcement of the Nuisance Ordinances of Iroquois County.
